Development of Group name and logo
Our group changed our name from Group Won to Group One Time. We discussed just a couple different logos and in the end selected the one you see here to the left. It is a clock for time, with a single handed pointed to the one. Those two elements combined signified our group name - One Time.
examples of good and bad design
I had a hard time with examples of good and bad design because at first I believed the project had to be about the internet and the web. Once I realized it could be about any type of design, I had too many options to choose from! Since we had recently moved, I decided to do the project about our new place. The slideshow presentation of this project can be viewed below.

determining my big idea
Determining my big idea was difficult for me because at first I was only concentrating on the 'big idea' I wanted for my students. It was only after I really thought about in the context of my own teaching that it made sense to me. I still did the project on the same 'big idea', however I focused less on the idea I wanted my students to walk away with (which is to think deeper about power and authority) and more on the fact that the website was really going to be about writing an effective essay and the power and authority would just be the prompts. In English 10 we read The Andersonville Trial in which Henry Wirz, a Confederate Office, is put on trial for war crimes. He oversaw a prisoner of war camp, names Camp Sumter, during part of the Civil War. I believe part of teaching is to help prepare students to be informed citizens. This story really causes them to think because at first, you want to find him guilty. However, when you begin to think about the dynamics of power and authority and how they effect choice, sometimes what is right can differ. This is especially true if you think about in the context of military life. I always hope students walk away with the tools to persuade someone to believe what they believe...but underneath that I want them to really think about What Would They Do? I think showing the Milgram Experiment and the Stanford Prison Experiment only further makes them think about it.
