Power and authority Persuasive essay assignment
Over the last couple of weeks we have been reading The Andersonville Trial in class. We have also discussed the Stanford Prison Experiment and the Milgram Experiment. Your assignment is to write a Persuasive Essay (following the guidelines) in which you take a stance on power, authority and choice. You must support your stance with examples from the Andersonville Trial and at least one example from either the Stanford Prison Experiment or the Migram Experiment. You are trying to persuade the reader to believe either A) Henry Wirz WAS NOT guilty of conspiracy and murder for what happened at Camp Sumter or B) Henry Wirz WAS guilty of conspiracy and murder for what happened at Camp Sumter. You will support your decision by discussing power and authority and following orders.
How to write a persuasive essay
The goal of a persuasive essay is to convince the reader to accept the writer’s point of view. You as the writer must build a case for your point of view using facts and logic, as well as examples, expert opinion, and sound reasoning. You must present all sides of the argument, but must be able to communicate clearly and without equivocation why a certain position is correct.
